Ingredients

  • 2 gallons peanut oil
  • 1 (10 to 14 pound) Butterball® Fresh or Frozen Whole Turkey, thawed if frozen
Directions
  1. Fill pot with peanut oil to maximum fill line.

  2. Set control dial to 375°F. Preheat for approximatley 35 minutes. Close lid on the fryer.

  3. Meanwhile, remove giblets and neck from body and neck cavities of turkey; refrigerate for another use or discard. Drain juices from turkey; pat dry with paper towels. Remove and discard plastic leg holder.

  4. Place turkey, breast side up, in basket. Hook basket handle with the lifting fork and very slowly lower basket into hot oil.

  5. With basket in place, close lid of fryer. Fry turkey for 3-1/2 to 4 minutes per pound. Remove from oil to check doneness. Insert an instant-read thermometer into thickest part of thigh, not touching bone. Temperature should be 180°F.

  6. When turkey is done, turn digital timer to MIN and unplug fryer. Allow turkey to rest in basket for 10 minutes before removing to carve.
