Smoked Sausage with Caramelized Onions
Caramelized onions add just the right touch of “sweetness” to Butterball Smoked Turkey Sausage. Serve in hot dog buns, this is a great sandwich for “on the go”.

Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 large sweet onions, cut into 1/4-inch thick slices
- 1/4 teaspoon EACH salt and pepper
- 1 package (14 ounces) Butterball® Smoked Turkey Dinner Sausage , cut into 4 equal pieces
- 4 hot dog buns, horizontally cut in half, toasted
- 1/2 cup brown mustard

Heat oil in a large skillet on medium heat. Add onions, salt and pepper. Cook, covered, 15 to 20 minutes or until onions are golden brown and soft, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; keep warm.
Meanwhile, preheat outdoor grill to medium-high direct heat. Grill sausage 8 to 10 minutes, turning frequently, until internal temperature reaches 165°F. Remove from grill; keep warm.
Spread mustard over cut surfaces of buns. Place each piece of sausage in a bun. Top with onions and serve.
