Texas Beans

Butterball

Three types of beans flavored with garlic, onions, peppers and spices, simmered and served with Butterball Smoked Sausage.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 6 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 cups diced onions
  • 1 1/2 cups diced green bell peppers
  • 1 1/2 cups diced red bell peppers
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes
  • 1 can (16 ounces) pinto beans, undrained
  • 1 can (16 ounces) red kidney beans, undrained
  • 1 can (16 ounces) white kidney beans, undrained

Serving Suggestions
  1. Heat oil in large heavy saucepan on medium heat. Add garlic. Cook and stir 1 minute.

  2. Add mushrooms. Cook and stir 2 to 3 minutes or until mushrooms are light brown in color.

  3. Add onions and peppers. Cook and stir 7 to 8 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Stir in seasonings until blended.

  4. Stir in beans and liquid. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer 30 minutes.
