All-star Turkey Talker Astrid Volpert, R.D. has been talking turkey for more than eight years. Astrid graduated from Purdue University with bachelor of science degrees in food & nutrition and biology. She now holds the title of Butterball® Turkey Talk-Line® expert: bilingual turkey talker (Spanish & English). She’s given many national and regional radio and television interviews.

Most Memorable Call:

A New Jersey fireman called the Talk-Line while cooking dinner for his entire firehouse to ask where he should insert the meat thermometer into his turkey. After Astrid explained the proper technique, she suggested he log on to Butterball.com to get free Butterball recipes as well. At first he seemed interested, but then he reluctantly declined, saying that if any of his co-workers found out, he might lose his “macho” image. After all, what would his fellow firefighters think if they discovered he now knew as much about roasting turkeys as he did about fighting fires?
