Turkey Smashburger

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs of Butterball Ground Turkey
  • 4 slices of Cheddar or American Cheese
  • 1 large Yellow Sweet Onion, sliced (adding onion to burger is optional)
  • 1 jar of sliced pickles
  • 2 large tomatoes, sliced for burger toppings
  • ½ head of lettuce for burger toppings
  • 1 package of Brioche Buns
  • 1 teaspoon Harissa (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Prepare your patties. Place ground turkey into a mixing bowl. Add in your seasonings harissa, garlic powder, and onion salt, pepper (optional) into the bowl. Using your hands or a non-stick mixing spoon, incorporate your seasoning into the meat.
  2. Divide your ground turkey into 4oz balls. Gently form a round ball and place on parchment pepper. Repeat this step until you have 8 round balls. Place in the fridge for 15min.
  3. Using a cast iron pan or a heavy bottom skillet over medium - high heat. The pan should be very hot before placing the patties into the pan. The heat will help with caramelization and creating that iconic smash burger crust on your burger.
  4. Add one chilled and season ground turkey balls to your hot skillet. Using a burger press or a metal spatula press down on you patty until thin, about ¼’ thick.
  5. Cook for 1 to 2 min until a crust forms. Sprinkle each side of the burger with your mixture of seasonings. Using your metal spatula, flip the burger and repeat on the other side seasoning.
  6. Add your cheese to each patty and place one patty on top of the other. Allow the cheese to melt completely on your burgers. Place your fully cooked turkey smashburger patties on to a plate.
  7. Prepare your buns, lightly butter each bun and toast on your castor iron skillet until golden brown.
  8. Prepare your burger, using whatever condiment you choose (mayo) on your bottom bun. Add your patty, pickles, lettuce, and tomato.Server and enjoy. Recipe makes 4 smashburgers.
